Julian E. Jones Jr. is a trailblazing public servant who shattered barriers to become a fire department chief, chairman of the Baltimore County Council, PTA president and business leader.

First elected to the Baltimore County Council in 2014, Julian was voted by his colleagues to the Council Chairman leadership position three times in a row—the first person ever so honored.

Julian learned community service and hard work as a child. Born in Baltimore, he accompanied his mother, a Baltimore City public school teacher, on visits to neighbors unable to read or write as she helped them understand mail and pay bills. His father, Julian Sr., was a veteran who labored at Bethlehem Steel for 42 years.

Julian joined the Anne Arundel County Fire Department to help pay for college, and discovered a passion for serving others in need that became his life's purpose.

After graduating from UMBC in 1988 with an information systems management degree, he stayed with the fire department and advanced, becoming the first African American lieutenant, captain, battalion chief and division chief in the department's history.

He was a union leader, co-founder and president of the Anne Arundel County Professional Black Firefighter Association and led Maryland's fire and EMS response as part of a mission to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

A lifelong entrepreneur, Julian is a licensed real estate agent and founded a company that specializes in real estate development, rehabilitation and renovation.

As a parent raising a family in Baltimore County, Julian became president of the PTA at Hernwood Elementary School to make sure his children and their friends had the support they needed.

On the County Council, Julian has been a forceful and practical advocate for education, public safety, fair housing and minority business participation. His legislative accomplishments include measures advancing homeownership, gun control, education, and police reform.

Julian is married to Sabrina, has three children, Julianna, Malik and Sanaa and two granddaughters, Janiyah and Carter.
